Disarray (2010)
Disarray is a piece from a cycle for electronics and drums that explores interaction between generative rhythmic patterns and live improvisation. Electronic part is generated in Mathematica, Wolfram Research Inc., using algorithm 109 (simple rule) discussed in the Stephen Wolfram's book, New Kind of Science. The rule 109, used in Disarray, is transparent and generates regular pattern propagation. The state of "disarray" in the piece is a consequence of interruptions created by insertion of different noise samples. Constrained electronic sound is opposed and enriched by the improvisation of the percussionist Peter Negroponte.
